Creating a Green World

Yu Ying is committed to providing an educational environment that supports both the wellness of the students and the health of the planet. The U.S. Department of Education awarded Yu Ying with the Green Ribbon award, which recognizes the school’s efforts to reduce its ecological footprint and improve the overall health and wellness of all staff and students. By incorporating health, wellness and sustainability practices into Yu Ying’s day-to-day operations, students are encouraged to make healthy and informed decisions for themselves and the world around them.

Building National and Global Partnerships

Yu Ying is engaged in a number of Chinese educational collaborations throughout the US and in China. Yu Ying is a founding member of Asia Society’s Chinese Early Language Immersion Network (CELIN) and works with Chinese immersion schools across the country.  We also collaborate with the University of Maryland and New York University to be a training ground for immersion education. In China, Yu Ying has worked on building relationships and connections with schools in Beijing, Zunyi, and Shanghai.

Earning Confucius Classroom of the Year

Established in 2004, the Confucius Institute is a non-profit organization, which aims to promote Chinese language and culture in the U.S. and other countries.  In fact, more than 1,000 Confucius Classrooms exist worldwide.  And from this large pool, Washington Yu Ying was selected to receive the Confucius Institute’s prestigious Chinese Classroom of the Year award in 2015–an honor held by only three U.S. schools that year.
