From day one, when Yu Ying opened our doors to the first 130 students in 2008, we were the only public or private school of our kind in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area.  Demand for Yu Ying’s innovative program has grown every year since, resulting in more than 1,000 applications each year.

Attending an Open House

To learn more about Yu Ying, please join us at an open house.  Yu Ying’s open houses schedule runs from November to March. Sessions start promptly at 6:30 pm in our multipurpose room (220 Taylor St. NE). During this time you will have an opportunity see a presentation, ask questions, and tour the school. No registration is necessary.

Applying to Yu Ying

To enroll in Yu Ying, families must first apply through a lottery.  Yu Ying participates in My School DC common application and common lottery.  This means that Yu Ying accepts only those applications submitted through My School DC.

The My School DC common lottery is a single, random lottery that determines placement for new students at all participating schools. Student-school matches are based on a variety of factors, including the number of spaces at each school; sibling, and other preferences; and each student’s choices.

Siblings of current Yu Ying and DCI students may receive enrollment preference to Yu Ying if those siblings meet the following criteria. The sibling:

  • Is related by blood to either one parent or both parents of the current sibling.
  • Is adopted by one or both parents of the current sibling
  • Lives with the current student at least 50 percent of the time and the home they share is in Washington, D.C.

Registering New and Returning Students

At Yu Ying, we try to make the school registration as easy as possible for both new and returning families.  While most of our registration forms are available electronically, new and returning families are required to complete and return in person DC residency forms and proof of DC residency to ensure your child’s space in upcoming school year. Families are required to bring original documentation.

New Students

Once accepted to Yu Ying, we will send new families instructions about how to complete their enrollment paperwork. Most enrollment paperwork will be sent electronically to the email address that provided on the  My School DC common lottery application.

Please note that all new students  to Yu Ying must complete all documents by May 1, 2017. The failure to do so will result in your child losing his/her space at Yu Ying for the 2017-2018 school year.

By May 1, 2017 new families must:

  • Complete the online registration. (This will be sent via email.)
  • Submit DC Residency Form and proof of DC residency to Washington Yu Ying IN PERSON beginning Monday, April 3, 2017 through Friday, April 28, 2017. (Yu Ying will be closed from April 17-21st for Spring Break and will not be accepting forms during that time.)

New families may submit forms and documents between the hours of 8:15 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Thursday. On Fridays families may submit forms between the hours of 8:15 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

The person turning in the DC Residency Form and proof of DC residency must be the same person who is listed on the Residency Form and whose name is on the documents proving residency. If you are not able to submit DC Residency Verification Forms and proof of DC residency during these times please email enrollment@washingtonyuying.org to make an appointment.

  • Return additional required forms before school starts on August 28, 2017:
  • Annual DC Health Forms: DC Health Form
  • DC Dental Form: DC Oral Health Certificate
  • Individualized Educational Plan – if applicable
  • Washington Yu Ying PCS participates in the National School Lunch Program. Please complete the NSLP application if you believe your family qualifies for Free and Reduced Lunch. The application will be available after July 1st 2017. Questions: contact our reception staff (reception@washingtonyuying.org).

Current or Returning Students

Please note that families with current students returning to Yu Ying must complete all documents by May 16, 2017. The failure to do so will result in your child losing his/her space at Yu Ying for the 2017-2018 school year.

  • Complete the online registration. (This will be sent via email.)
  • Submit DC residency form and proof of DC residency to Washington Yu Ying IN PERSON beginning on Tuesday, May 2, 2017 through Tuesday, May 16, 2017.

You may submit forms and documents between the hours of 8:15 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Thursday. On Fridays you may submit forms between the hours of 8:15 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. The person turning in the DC Residency Form and proof of DC residency must be the same person who is listed on the Residency Form and whose name is on the documents proving residency. If you are not able to submit DC Residency Verification Forms and proof of DC residency during these times please email enrollment@washingtonyuying.org to make an appointment. (Note:  Returning students need not submit birth certificates, home language survey, MSDC Enrollment form and IEP information.)
